Expansion of MPD Research Alliance

The MPD Foundation announces that in June, 2008 it will publish a call for proposals to participate in the MPD Research Alliance, a collaborative multi-investigator, multi-year project focused on advancing the understanding of the MPDs and contributing to the rapid discovery and development of effective treatments.

The specific goal of the MPD Research Alliance is to identify, within the shortest time frame possible, candidates for targeted drugs for the Philadelphia chromosome negative myeloproliferative disorders for all MPD patients.  Currently this project involves investigators at Harvard, Mt. Sinai, and the Mayo Clinic.  It is the intention of the MPD Foundation to broaden participation in this project as funding allows to encourage accelerated discovery of effective treatments for the MPDs.

Awards will start at $100,000 per year and may be larger based on the quality and potential impact of a proposal;  awards are renewable for additional years based on peer review by the Scientific Advisory Board of the MPD Foundation and on available funding.

MPD New Investigator Awards

The MPD Foundation will initiate in 2008 a program of grant awards to encourage new and established scientists to engage in basic and translational research into causes and treatments of myeloproliferative disorders (MPDs).

The specific goal of the MPD New Investigator Awards is to expand the breadth of MPD research being conducted in academic institutions by encouraging and supporting new researchers.

In June, 2008, the MPD Foundation will publish a call for investigators who want to do innovative research related to MPDs.  In particular, a call for:

  • Emerging investigators who are considering a career related to MPDs and other related blood cancers

  • Established investigators in related fields who are interested in bringing their experience and skills to research in the MPDs

Awards are anticipated to be in the range of $50,000 - $75,000 per year for a minimum of 2 years, based on satisfactory progress as determined through review by the Scientific Advisory Board of the MPD Foundation.
