New York City Patient Symposium is a Huge
Success
Over 210 myeloproliferative disorder patients and family members filled the Harmonie Club meeting
space with standing room only during this daylong MPD patient symposium.
Attendees came from as far away as Ghana, India and London, as well as
the west coast and southern United States. Leading MPD researchers
presented the latest data on the state of research into and updates on
clinical trials for polycythemia vera, essential thrombocythemia and primary myelofibrosis. The MPD Foundation's Research Alliance investigators,
Drs. Hoffman, Tefferi and Gilliland, shared updates on the work accomplished
thus far funded by the Foundation. Patients broke into groups based
on their specific MPD and were able to discuss challenges and share information
with physicians and other patients. Many newly diagnosed patients
were particularly pleased to be able to talk openly about their disease
and learn from experts in the field. Many thanks to the CR&T
Fund for allowing the MPD Foundation to co-sponsor this event and to Merck,
Exelixis, Cytopia and Celgene.
The 2nd Annual Al Bolea Memorial Bike Ride
Al Bolea was an avid cyclist who passed away from myelofibrosis. He was known for his compassion
and caring for others. On August 12th, friends gathered for the second
annual memorial bike ride to honor Al. In 2006, they raised a substantial
amount of money that was directed to the MPD Research Alliance for myelofibrosis
research. Contributions to this event will again be directed to the Research
Alliance. Many thanks to this dedicated group!
Team Wind-Mullers Raise Over $50,000 for the
MPD Research Alliance
"When the winds of change blow, some build walls,
some build windmills."
On April 29, 2007, an MPD patient and several family members ran in the
Big Sur International Marathon beginning in Big Sur, California, and ending
in Carmel. The weather was perfect for the event and the Team
Wind-Mullers raised over $50,000 to be directed to the MPD Research Alliance.
The dedication and determination of this team was contagious! In
only a few months, a Firstgiving website was created and the donations
began to pour in. The MPD Foundation congratulates and thanks Team
Wind-Mullers and all of their friends and family members for their generosity
and support!
