The American Society of Hematology: Find a Hematologist
Find a Hematologist is a searchable online database that connects patients with ASH members around the world who are accepting new patients or providing second opinions.

National Center for Biotechnology Information
Established in 1988 as a national resource for molecular biology information, NCBI creates public databases, conducts research in computational biology, develops software tools for analyzing genome data, and disseminates biomedical information - all for the better understanding of molecular processes affecting human health and disease. This site contains abstracts of research reports by MPD experts from around the world.

Med News
"Myeloproliferative disorders are diseases in which too many of certain types of blood cells are made in the bone marrow. The bone marrow is the spongy tissue inside the large bones in the body. The bone marrow makes red blood cells (which carry oxygen to all the tissues in the body), white blood cells (which fight infection), and platelets (which make the blood clot)."

This site offers information including the alternative names, the definitions, causes and risks, symptoms, signs and tests, treatment, prognosis, and complications of MPDs.

Johns Hopkins Center for the Chronic Myeloproliferative Disorders
"The mission of the Center for the Chronic Myeloproliferative Disorders is to improve the understanding of these unique disorders with respect to their pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment through basic and clinical research."

MD Anderson Cancer Center
A source of information for patients, physicians and scientists with an interest in Chronic Myeloproliferative Disorders.

Mayo Clinic
A source of information for patients, physicians and scientists with an interest in these related disorders: polycythemia rubra vera, chronic myelogenous leukemia, myelofibrosis with myeloid metaplasia, and essential thrombocythemia.

The Merck Manual
"In myeloproliferative disorders (myelo = bone marrow, proliferative = rapid multiplication), the blood-producing cells in the bone marrow (precursor cells) develop and reproduce abnormally or are crowded out by an overgrowth of fibrous tissue. The three major myeloproliferative disorders are polycythemia vera, myelofibrosis, and thrombocythemia."
